Microchip Pet Identification

There is nothing worse than your four-legged family member being lost and away from home. According to the American Humane Association, about 10 million cats and dogs are lost or stolen every year. A microchip pet ID makes it significantly more likely your pet will be returned to you.

Here at Shaker Heights Animal Hospital we use the HomeAgain microchip. HomeAgain has reunited over 1,000,000 pets with their owners. The chip is about the size of a grain of rice and is designed to last your pet’s entire life. The chip is inserted under the skin in the area of the shoulder blade and takes about 10 seconds to place.

Each chip has its own identification number that is registered to identify your pet in the National Pet Recovery Database. If your pet ends up at a shelter or another veterinary hospital, a scanner can be used to retrieve the microchip identification number and the ID number is matched to the information in the database so your beloved pet can be reunited with the family whether they end up a few miles or hundreds of miles from home.

HomeAgain memberships offer additional services such as Lost Pet Specialists, Lost Pet Alerts, Lost Pet Medical Insurance, Travel Assistance for Found Pets and more. Another benefit that HomeAgain offers is free access to the ASPCA 24 Hour Emergency Hotline, where you can speak to veterinary professionals about emergency situations so they can advise you what to do.

Our In-House Pharmacy: A Source You Can Trust

Ensuring you have convenient and timely access to competitively priced medications is a vital part of what we do. Shaker Heights Animal Hospital offers an in-house pharmacy, which means your pet will receive the right medication, at the right dose, and in the right form as quickly as possible.

We will provide you detailed instructions on the medication’s use, discuss any side effects or interactions and even give your pet the first dose if possible. You can feel confident all the medications we dispense were obtained from safe, reliable sources and stored under the right conditions. We also understand medications can be expensive, so our veterinarians are more than happy to write a prescription to fill at a local pharmacy or an online pharmacy.

There are many conditions an animal can be diagnosed with that can be maintained on a prescription diet. We carry a wide variety of these prescription diets, including Royal Canin, Purina and Hill’s. Please call ahead to make sure we have the diet you need in stock. If we don’t, we will be more than happy to order it for you.

End of Life Planning

Your pet’s final days are certain to be difficult, emotional and full of hard choices. Our understanding and experienced veterinary team is committed to making this time in your pet’s life as comforting as possible for your pet and you. As that time approaches, our clients are more than welcome to discuss their wishes with us to help lessen this emotional burden.

At Shaker Heights Animal Hospital we offer burial and cremation services through Western Farm, located in Grafton Ohio.
