vets in Shaker HeightsJeremy Welsh, DVM, Owner

Dr. Jeremy Welsh is the owner and practicing veterinarian at Shaker Heights Animal Hospital. He developed an early interest in medicine as a child growing up in Newcomerstown, Ohio. Dr. Welsh's mother was an ICU nurse, which spurred his early interest in medicine. He also grew up in a rural area with a small hobby farm. Dr. Welsh's love of pets and interest in medicine would drive his motivation towards becoming a veterinarian, and some of his earliest roles in the animal-care field included working at a pet store and as a veterinary assistant.

After high school, Dr. Welsh studied at Bowling Green University. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry in 2004. He continued his education at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, earning his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. Dr. Welsh also earned a master's degree in public health with a focus in veterinary public health from The Ohio State University College of Public Health in 2009.

Dr. Welsh became the owner of Shaker Heights Animal Hospital after purchasing the practice from Dr. James Prueter in December 2016. He is a member of the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Ohio Veterinary Emergency Responders. Dr. Welsh's professional interests include dentistry and soft-tissue surgery.

"The most satisfying part of being a veterinarian is communicating with clients and client education," Dr. Welsh says. "I strive to treat my clients how I would want to be treated. My goal is to provide excellent client services, exceptional patient care, all the while giving back to both the pets and people of the community."

At home, Dr. Welsh and his wife Lisa have a son named Liam. They share their home with three boxers named Abraham, Lincoln and Addison, as well as three cats named Sabrina, Sebastian and Patrick. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Welsh is an avid golfer. He enjoys DIY projects and home improvement, being outdoors, spending time with his wife and toddler son, and traveling internationally.
